Sports massage in Sheffield
Focused hands on treatment for tightness, recovery and maintenance. Based in Halfway, S20, a short trip from anywhere in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire.
Who this is for
Sports Massage is maintenance. Looking after a body you train hard:
- General tightness or stiffness from training, desk work or life
- Recovery between hard training blocks, events or races
- Straightforward training aches with no clear injury behind them
- A proper, thorough massage from someone who trains too
If there is pain, a recurring problem or an injury underneath it, Movement Therapy is usually the better starting point, because it begins with a full assessment rather than going straight to the table.
What a session looks like
We start with a short chat about how you are moving, training and feeling, then get straight into unhurried hands on work. Every session is tailored to your sport, your body and what you need that day.
Sometimes a massage turns up something that needs a proper assessment. If that happens, I will say so.

What is a massage actually doing?
Massage has a lot of folklore attached. Melting knots. Breaking down scar tissue. Realigning things. The evidence does not back the folklore.
What it supports is more interesting: your nervous system. A 2025 review of the research found measurable changes across several body systems when hands on treatment is applied, with the strongest signals in the nervous system.
The folklore
- Knots melted away
- Scar tissue broken down
- Joints realigned
What the evidence supports
- Pain modulation. Your nervous system turns the alarm down, so sensitive spots become less sensitive.
- Reduced muscle guarding. Muscles that were braced and on duty finally let go.
- Autonomic shifts. Circulation and stress responses change during and after treatment.
- Neurochemical release. Feel good chemistry shifts, oxytocin and endorphins included.
That "for a while" is the point. Massage is not a repair job, and that is exactly why it suits maintenance: regular sessions that keep a hard working body moving, rather than one heroic fix. It is also why anything that keeps coming back needs assessing properly rather than massaging repeatedly.

What clients say
“Jake is the best massage therapist I've visited. He helped me deal with years of stiffness and pain as a result of doing little else other than road cycling.”
“Jake takes the time to understand what your issues are and what you are trying to achieve, and as a cyclist he really has a deep insight into the complex issues that people in the sport face resulting from spending hours on the bike, although his service is not cycling-specific.”
“Very knowledgeable, always trying to learn and is always keen to try and understand your individual circumstances to tailor a treatment to suit you rather than a one size fits all.”
